Why I think we should have 100% Community Membership Participation.
By Allen Tubis, 37 Sierra Lane
Three years ago, my family and I were looking for a house in the Annapolis area
with water access. All of the communities we looked at had mandatory dues
ranging from $185 to $365 per year. That is until we looked at the house
we eventually bought in the Pines. For about $10.00 per month
($125 per year) we receive the following benefits from membership in Pine's on
the Severn.
1. A wonderful playground with parking, picnic area, ball fields and children's
playground equipment. (Great for kids, grandkids, picnics, etc.)
2. Access to and maintenance of Tennis Court.
3. Access to and maintenance of Basketball Court.
4. A beautiful beach with piers, covered picnic tables, beach house with
restrooms and outdoor showers, boat ramp, swimming platform, bilge pump.
5. Free Community events, such as Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween Parties, 4th of
July Parades, Christmas Caroling, etc.
6. Boat slip or mooring
7. Dingy rack
8. Opportunity for a boat locker
9. Discount admissions to community events such as Crab Feast.
10. Free party space rental. Having a wedding, birthday, or other special
event? As a PCIA member, you can reserve the beach or playground picnic areas
for parties or special events.
11. Free Pines Newsletter with upcoming event information & community news.
12. Maintenance of community property such as landscaping and grass cutting.
13. Payment of utility bills such as electric, water and waste collection for
playground & beach. This provides lighting at night, trash collection
& water.
14. Publication of the community directory.
15. Pines Parking Stickers and guest passes. Starting in 2003, parking
stickers or guest passes will be required to park in the playground or beach
parking lots.
16. www.PinesontheSevern.com community web site.
17. Protection of community assets such as waterfront, playground and beach
property.
18. Funding of the Pines Community Improvement Association that organizes
community volunteers for such things as: community events and celebrations,
children's activities, security issues, protection and maintenance of community
property, newsletter, postings on the signboard, assignment of boat slips,
membership, distribution of newsletters and notices, interaction with Maryland
State and local governments, community web site, collection of Pines historical
data, environmental projects such as the Kudzu project, plantings, etc.
19. Increased property value. Though you could say all area property
values are going up, the addition of a beach, deep water slips, moorings,
playground, tennis court, basketball court, playground equipment, picnic area,
etc. definitely help to increase value.
